Storyhouse in Chester is the country’s most exciting new arts building and organisation. The £37m theatre, library, cinema and restaurant is part producing theatre, combined arts organisation and inspirational library, which opened in May 2017. We also run events such as Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre, Moonlight Flicks and Chester Literature Festival.
We are looking to recruit a Production Manager to join our team on a fixed term basis between 18th November and 26th July. The production Manager will work across 10 productions starting with the get in for Peter Pan, then moving on to our February Repertory season of The Suicide, Blue Stockings and Miss Julie. You will then move onto our May rep season of shows these being, Brewster Millions, Antigone and A Seat At The Table. The last season is our season at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre , this is once again a rep company of 14 actors who work across three productions.

Purpose of position:
•To plan and manage, to the highest standards, the production and technical aspects of our produced seasons.
•To work across three shows simultaneously within our rep seasons.
•To lead and manage the Production Department, its staff and resources.
•To contract a construction team to build and install sets both in Storyhouse and at Grosvenor Park Open Air theatre adhering to the designs within a set timescale whilst keeping within budget.
•The Production Manager works closely with the Artistic Director and Production Designer to achieve and support the organisation’s artistic work.
Main duties and responsibilities:
•To obtain quotes from set builders in order to create an achievable budget following the final model box meeting.
•To organise and minute all design meetings.
•Plan, budget and schedule all get ins and get outs for all productions both at Storyhouse and Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre. Working closely with the Technical Manager and Associate Producer.
•Work with the Artistic Director and Production Designer to set and maintain the production and craft standards for the artistic work across the season.
•Leading production meetings, attending rehearsals as appropriate, overseeing technical rehearsals as required.
•Communicating relevant production information between internal colleagues and external partners.
•Ensuring that productions are realised as required, on budget and on schedule.
•Support the Designer to ensure all aspects of set are achieved to a high standard whilst keeping within budget.
•Ensure appropriate production and technical support is provided for each production.
•Prepare and manage production finances, these include staffing costs, production expenditure, equipment maintenance and renewals, and petty cash.
•Work with the Technical Manager and Stage Manger to create a get in and get out schedule for each production within a set time scale.
•To ensure that all sets are show ready for the start of technical rehearsals.
•Act as the Health and Safety Officer for the productions, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and maintaining an appropriate Health and Safety Policy at all times.
•Create risk assessments for all get ins and get outs and all productions.
•Ensure that productions are staged in compliance with the relevant licence conditions,
liaise internally with the theatre’s licensee, and liaise as appropriate with external bodies
including the local authority and fire service.
•Work in the best interests of Storyhouse and in accordance with company policies
including health and safety, safeguarding and IT.
•Be an effective representative of Storyhouse in all situations and demonstrate the
highest level of customer care and service.
